FGB, one of the leading banks in the UAE, recently hosted a seminar for its commercial banking clients at the St. Regis Hotel in Dubai, providing key insights into managing risk in today's market conditions. The seminar was hosted by FGB's Commercial Bank, a division of the Wholesale and International Banking Group, which presented an overview of risk management and the bank's treasury and trade finance products to clients during the session, and led by speaker, Simon Rogers, Managing Director at Swapskills.
The seminar provided FGB's clients with insight into a variety of topics, including current economic trends and the potential risks that can hinder survival and growth, as well as how these risks can be mitigated. The session covered deliberations on various "known un-knowns" (the risks), such as commodities, currencies, liquidity, interest rates and geo-political trends across the globe, which have a direct or indirect bearing on UAE businesses, and the need to ensure these are proactively managed and hedged.
The seminar, which was attended by around 80 people from corporations across the UAE, marks the first in a series of client sessions in the pipeline for the Commercial Bank.
Simon Penney, Head of the Wholesale and International Banking Group at FGB, said: "In light of today's challenging global market conditions, risk management is a key priority for any business. The session provided a great opportunity for us to ensure that our clients are up-to-speed with the latest trends and deliver expert advice to help them get a step ahead and succeed. The seminar was a big success and it was a pleasure to host our clients from across the UAE at this first client training session for our Commercial Bank segment."
Simon Rogers, Managing Director at Swapskills, said: "This was an excellent initiative from FGB, designed to help their commercial banking customers to manage risk more efficiently and safely in a volatile market. During the session, we explored various strategies and methods to manage currency, commodity and interest rate risk through the broad range of tools that are available, as well as the consequences of not managing risk as actively as possible. We received positive feedback about the session and it was great to see all participants engaging and getting involved."
FGB's Commercial Bank (CMB) is a specialised segment which provides emerging corporate and mid-market clients with a comprehensive range of products and services, ranging from working capital financing and short to long-term loans, along with foreign exchange and treasury services, cash management, trade finance and Islamic products.
