Shamma Al Mazrui Urges Youth To Take Up Volunteering To Bring Positive Changes In Society
(28 March 2016)

Shamma bint Sohail Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth, has called upon young people to contribute to making positive changes in the society by taking part in volunteering activities and knowledge and innovation initiatives that meet the vision of the UAE.

This came during Al Mazrui’s visit to the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development in Abu Dhabi, where she met senior management of the Foundation as well as volunteers in attendance of Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Ambassador of Esref Sah Programme; Clare Woodcraft-Scott, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Foundation, and Maytha Al Habsi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

The visit to the Foundation came as part of a series of visits by the minister to diverse sectors and institutions related to youth to interact with them and understand their aspirations.

Addressing the young volunteers, Al Mazrui said: "Your efforts and participation in volunteering work has given hope to many people and made you role models for other youth. You are the best ambassadors for youth inside and outside the UAE as you serve your country and support its development."

Al Mazrui said: "The UAE youth are the country’s main assets, whatever job or role they carry out in the society. They are the hope of our leadership in taking forward the march of development taking place in the UAE. With your support, we will certainly achieve our goals."

Al Mazrui praised the efforts of the Foundation and its community services, saying: "I was keen to visit the Emirates Foundation in view of its pivotal role played by the Foundation, led by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, for more than 11 years to support and empower young Emiratis in all fields."

"The Emirates Foundation has become a key partner in the development of the society through its various activities that touch the lives of every young person in our society. The Foundation focuses on efforts to support youth in several key areas, including leadership, empowerment, social inclusion, and community participation," she added.

The minister’s visit included a tour of the Foundation’s programmes such as Takatof, SANID, Think Science, Kafa’at, ESREF Sah as well as meeting with managers of a number of departments. On the occasion, Al Mazrui also met young Emirati volunteers and discussed ways to consolidate youth efforts in the UAE.
