Mushrif Central Park Celebrates One Year At The Heart Of Abu Dhabi
(20 March 2016)

Mushrif Central Park celebrates its first year anniversary since its opening to the public on March 20th 2015. The popular community destination offers several attractions and facilities and has hosted a variety of Abu Dhabi’s most popular events during its first year of operation.

Following a year packed with diverse events and community initiatives, the park’s has firmly cemented its role as a community destination for the city’s residents. It has hosted significant cultural activities and events, including Abu Dhabi Classics concerts and Umsiyat series performances and the private gala dinner for the World Economic Forum Summit on the Global Agenda. The park also provides an educational platform for people of all ages, particularly children, to learn and explore with events such as the 5th Abu Dhabi Science Festival, which was held in the park for the first time in November 2015. The Live Science exhibition with Lema technology workshops and the international Boeing Above & Beyond flight exhibition were recently held at the park and were open to the public and schools to learn about aviation and space travel innovations.

Families also experienced a Winter Festival with snow-themed children’s activities during December 2015 and January 2016. The first Love Food Festival Abu Dhabi was held at the park during February and the popular weekend fixture Ripe Food & Craft Market in association with Al Bayt Mitwahid Association with local vendors and food outlets continues, with great success and will be held at the park until end of April 2016. Community workshops have been an important addition to the park’s calendar aiming to collaborate and provide a platform for several organisations, such as the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and Goals UAE for their activities with children with autism.

Within its first year of reopening, a number of renovations and improvements took place at Mushrif Central Park to enhance visitors’ experiences. These include the expansion of the Animal Barn with the addition of new animals, such as tortoises and rabbits, new F&B offerings for visitors, educational signage across the park highlighting plant species. English translations for the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan sayings that adorn the walls of the Wisdom Garden were added, so that non-Arabic speakers can enjoy and reflect on his eternal words.

In addition, Mushrif Central Park has introduced educational programmes for school trips designed for different curricula and age groups. To further connect with park visitors, Mushrif the mascot was unveiled as the park’s community ambassador to promote environmentally friendly practices and encourage visitors to act responsibly towards the park, its landscape and flora and fauna.

Tanuja Kothari, Project Director of Mushrif Central Park comments, “It has been wonderful seeing Mushrif Central Park regain its position as one of the most popular family destinations in Abu Dhabi.   Also seeing it blossom into the community platform it has become is particularly fulfilling to me and the entire park team. We are looking forward to further enrich the park’s programme and facilities with new ideas and initiatives for everyone to enjoy. We are already working on some exciting programming ideas for the next season, so watch this space. ”
