The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group, ADSG, today announced the winners of its annual Sustainable Business Leadership Awards, 2016. This year’s ceremony, which was part of the Group’s annual sustainability achievements celebration gala dinner, took place at the Rosewood Hotel, Abu Dhabi, on 16th February.
Organised by the ADSG and launched in 2015, the ADSG Awards are the region’s only independent annual awards for sustainability achievements. It offers the region an award and recognition scheme that is designed to showcase sustainability best practice and to raise awareness about the benefits of sustainable management practices for organisations.
As part of the mission of the ADSG, these Awards demonstrate the Group’s commitment to knowledge sharing aimed at improving sustainability performance. It also recognise organisations who have demonstrated sustainability impact, leadership and commitment.
The ADSG invited all organisations in the region to participate and submit their sustainability achievements, and the group received a high level of interest with numerous entries received.
The Award winners are selected by an independent judging panel. The awards categories and winners are; Best Sustainability Initiative awarded to Al Jazeera International Catering, Best Sustainability Report awarded to National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Sustainability Manager of the Year awarded to Christiane Abou Zeidan, Corporate Director of Environmental Health & Safety Rotana Hotel Management Corporation, and Sustainability Leader of the year awarded to Gus Schellekens Partner, Clean Energy and Sustainability Services, Ernst & Young.
All entries were judged against the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Business Leadership Awards framework which covers a variety of criteria which are integral to sustainable management practices. The judges, who are selected for their sustainability expertise and are completely independent of the ADSG, rated each submission against these criteria to decide the award winners.
During the ceremony, Huda Mohd Al Houqani, Director of ADSG, said, "As a group of voluntary organisations committed to sustainability in Abu Dhabi, we are very proud to showcase and recognise the sustainability achievements in the region. It is so important to celebrate and reflect on the key milestones and accomplishments achieved during 2015 today."
She added, "On behalf of the ADSG, I would like to congratulate all the organisations who participated and applied for the Awards. The ADSG Awards winners demonstrated leadership, engagement with the community and showed how they developed collaborative partnerships to help build an innovative and sustainable future."
