Kremerata Baltica With Gidon Kremer And Khatia Buniatishvili Set For Return Date With Abu Dhabi Classics
(1 February 2016)

As part of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority's (TCA Abu Dhabi) Abu Dhabi Classics international concert season, the Kremerata Baltica - one of the world's finest chamber orchestras - along with violinist Gidon Kremer returns to Abu Dhabi this week for two concerts.

Argentinian piano virtuoso Martha Argerich who was due to also take the stage was forced to cancel her trip to the emirate due to medical reasons, but has been replaced with Khatia Buniatishvili, who performed during a solo concert for last year's Classics season.

The first concerts will be held at Emirates Palace Auditorium on February 2nd with a programme featuring Mendelssohn's Concerto for Violin and String Orchestra in D minor; Mozart's Piano Concerto in D minor and Schumann's emotional homage to the romantic fascination for Eastern subjects, the Oriental Pictures.

The second concert, being held at Al Ain Municipality Theatre, will feature a programme including The Seasons Digest, an elaboration on Tchaikovsky's intimate piano cycle The Seasons from contemporary Russian composer Alexander Raskatov, as well as two prominent pieces from one of the greatest 19th century composers, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

The Latvian classical violinist and conductor, Gidon Kremer, is a former Grammy winner and ranks today among the very finest violists in the world. He has dedicated his musical life to nurturing young talent and comes back to Abu Dhabi with the Kremerata Baltica, the Chamber Orchestra composed of young musicians from all three Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) that he founded in 1997.

Joining him is one of the new stars of the international piano scene, the mesmerising Khatia Buniatishvili. A multiple prize winner, BBC New Generation Artist and Echo Klassik Laureate, she has recently played solo on Coldplay's new album and is due to release her new CD Kaleidoscope later this month.

Dr Ronald Perlwitz, Head of Music Programme TCA Abu Dhabi, said: After Martha Argerich's unexpected cancellation, we are very happy to present such a magnificent pianist as Khatia Buniatishvili to replace her. She has been very kind to accept our invitation as she is currently on tour in New York.

Last year she gave a mesmerising recital at Manarat Al Saadiyat. Now, in a completely different set-up, with such a fine orchestra as Kremerata and the legendary Gidon Kremer, it will be even more thrilling to listen to her. The programme has only been changed in parts and now contains such grand pieces as Mozart's Piano Concerto Nr 20. Buniatishvili and Kremer are congenial artists and they will for sure display it on both nights.
