During this year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, Emirates Motor Company (EMC) – the authorized distributor of Mercedes-Benz in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the flagship company of Al Fahim Group – along with The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) are running an initiative called ‘Drive for Charity’ in order to raise money for Special Care Center Abu Dhabi: ‘Donate A Brick’ campaign.
The idea is simple. The more yards the Mercedes-Benz sponsored golfers drive off the tee over the 4-day tournament, the more money EMC and ADSC will donate. In effect, more yards equal more dirhams to the fund-raising campaign to help SCC reach the budget needed to build a new campus for the students with special needs.
After the prize-giving on the last day of the tournament, EMC and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council handed over a cheque for AED 66,976 to SCC in the presence of HH Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth & Social Development, Ahmed Al Qubaisy, Director of Marketing & Communications at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Reem Mohammed Al Fahim, Vice Chairperson of Special Care Centre and Frank Bernthaler, CEO of Al Fahim Automotive, in addition to a number of students from the Special Care Center.
Commenting on the initiative, Martin Kaymer stated, "I'm honored to be part of such a useful initiative to support Abu Dhabi Special Care Center and their students. Even better that I can do that by playing the game that I love. I am very thankful for how Golf has affected myself over the years and if I can help children I am always more than happy to do so!"
Ahmed Abdullah Al Qubaisy, Director of Marketing & Communications at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, commented: “ADSC is delighted with EMC’s initiative to extend support to Special Care Center Abu Dhabi. In launching Drive for Charity at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, EMC has set an excellent example of supporting an important segment of society that needs collective efforts to overcome physical and cognitive disabilities and mobility challenges.”
Frank Bernthaler, CEO of Al Fahim Automotive, said: “Drive for Charity demonstrates our ongoing commitment to give back to the community and urge positive social changes. Social responsibility is a deeply embedded element in the corporate culture of Al Fahim Group and EMC. As part of this priority, EMC partners with major sporting events and professionals to support worthy social and environment causes and empower youth, underprivileged and special needs.”
Reem Mohammed Al Fahim, Vice Chairperson of Special Care Centre, said: “The success of the ‘Donate A Brick’ campaign revolves around community participation. Corporations support play an important role in mobilizing the necessary resources and fostering social inclusion. As Special Care Centre’s vision is to empower students though appropriate education to become productive and welcome members of society. We are grateful for organizations such as the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Emirates Motor Company for their long term commitment to supporting schools and engaging persons with disabilities in their initiatives and workplace. Brick-by-brick we are witnessing the vision of Abu Dhabi’s Special Care Centre manifest, I am very much looking forward to opening the doors of the new purpose-built school in Al Bahia in September enrolling more families and giving back to the community that helped build the school.”
EMC is the official car sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 2016 as a keen supporter of the elite sport of golf in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Besides the Drive for Charity initiative, EMC will also be giving away two Mercedes-Benz luxury cars – one to a player and another to a lucky spectator through a raffle draw hosted in the Championship Village. Complementing its participation further, EMC had also organized a ProAm tournament in the days which led-up to the world championship establishing EMC ProAm teams.
