A wide range of family activities has been lined up at Yas Marina Circuit for Abu Dhabi residents to let their colours fly on UAE National Day.
Thrilling aerial acrobats, a high-speed zip line, camel rides and falconry shows, live musical performances, Arabic calligraphy and much more are on the agenda for the “National Day Colours” celebration on December 2.
Thousands of people from the expanding community on and around Yas Island are expected to enjoy the free entertainment, which aims to complement other main National Day ceremonies in Abu Dhabi.
The festivities come just three days after Yas Marina Circuit hosts the 2015 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX to round off the F1 season in style.
“It’s a huge week in the calendar for Yas Marina Circuit and Yas Island,” said Fasial A. Al Shiekh, Director of Events Bureau from the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority. “Yas Island is fast becoming a focal point for tourism and entertainment in Abu Dhabi and the region as a whole.
“We’re delighted that residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix action and live entertainment over race weekend, then continue the positive feeling with an impressive variety of activities to celebrate UAE National Day.
“The entertainment mix is selected very carefully with the intention of providing fun and thrills, as well as interactive activities that tie in with the UAE’s culture and heritage including the National Day44 car parade. We’re confident that visitors will have a great day out and learn a lot about the UAE.”
The drama will be provided by aerial acrobats performing a stunning circus-style show while suspended from helium balloons. Thrill seekers can head to the Fly Yas Zip Line, which reaches speeds of 65 km/hour. And, of course, there will be an impressive daytime fireworks show.
Cultural activities include falconry displays, camel rides, and Ayala dancing - a patriotic folkloric dance traditionally performed after tribal war victories. Visitors can also sample the tradition of henna hand painting and have their names written in Arabic by a professional calligrapher.
There will also be live musical performances, soap bubble shows, stilt walkers, UAE-themed live statues, contact jugglers, a caricaturist, UAE-themed face painting, and arts and crafts. Visitors are encouraged to share moments from the day on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtags #LetYourColoursFly and #MyUAE to win prizes.
Mohamed Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral Asset Management, said: “As the company responsible for managing Yas Island, Miral is delighted to work in partnership with Yas Marina Circuit and a number of other stakeholders to bring this event to the community.
