(22 November 2015)

Under the slogan ‘UAE Innovates’, Abu Dhabi has launched a wide range of events in all sectors

Abu Dhabi has launched 132 initiatives and events under the slogan; Emirates Innovates’, the General Secretariat of the Executive Council announced today (Saturday).

This is concurrent with the launch of the UAE Innovation Week to be organised from November 22 to November 28.

Abu Dhabi Government entities will participate in UAE Innovation Week, in line with directives from President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, that 2015 be the ‘Year for Innovation’. It further pinpoints the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to hold the UAE Innovation Week.

It is expected that the participation of more than 30 government entities, especially in Abu Dhabi, will construct a platform for all sectors to review the most significant achievements in the field of innovation.

The emirate of Abu Dhabi will witness the launch of a large number of initiatives and pilot projects based on innovation including education, health, energy, environment, space, services, among other sectors.

The agenda of the emirate is teemed with various prominent events which will open its doors to the public from different segments and age groups, while dedicating specific events for school students.

Under the patronage of Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser and Vice-Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development will inaugurate the Khalifa Centre for Innovation in collaboration with Khalifa University for Science, Technology and Research.

The General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi will publish a white paper titled ‘Innovation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’, which was prepared in cooperation with a number of local and international specialists and government officials.

The UAE Innovation Week will witness the official inauguration of the innovation creativity centre, which was launched by the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC). It provides a set of equipment and advanced software that contribute to encouraging the community to adopt innovative concepts, under the supervision of a team of experts who support amateur innovators at all levels in implementing their ideas and turning them into reality.

The Abu Dhabi Education Centre (Adec) will launch the Innovation Clubs Initiative in all schools in Abu Dhabi. This initiative furnishes the students with an incubator through which they may participate in experiments and research activities either inside the school laboratories or in the major innovation centres in the emirate.

The committee will also launch the ‘Computer Science First Initiative’, in partnership with Google. This initiative aims to promote a culture of innovation in the schools of Abu Dhabi through spreading modern concepts in the programming and technology fields, and attracting students to enrol in this pilot programme, which is considered the first of its kind in the world.

Within the framework of the interest that Abu Dhabi government pays to the health-care sector, UAE Innovation Week will witness the official opening of the e-pharmacy in Mohammad Bin Zayed Health Centre, created by Abu Dhabi Health Services (Seha) which is the first of its kind worldwide. It aims to improve the efficiency of selling medicine, as the project will be linked to an e-filing system, which provides digital records of the health status of its patients. This will contribute to reducing the effort exerted by patients and the care providers and increase the efficiency of health facilities in the emirate.

Masdar Institute will organise a community event under the name, ‘Innovation Oasis’, which paves the way for the public to visit ‘Innovation Oasis’ in Masdar City and take a guided tour. The tour will be conducted through the innovation area, in the research centres’ area, in addition to presenting research projects for the students of the institute.
