One of the ten most dangerous roads in the emirate of Abu Dhabi is going to undergo a speed limit change effective November 15, Abu Dhabi Police said on Monday.
The new speed limits for the Abu Dhabi-Al Ghuwaifat Road will be divided across the road’s three key sections.
“The first stretch starts from Al Dhafra bridge diversion to Baynunah Forest with speed limits of 100km/h and including a grace speed radar setting at 121km/h. The second stretch starts from Baynunah Forest to Barakah region, with a speed limit of 120km/h and including a grace speed radar setting of 141km/h. The third stretch extends from Barakah to Al Ghuwaifat, with a speed limit of 100km/h and including a grace speed radar setting of 121km/h. The speed limit for heavy trucks will remain set at 80km/h, while the speed limit for passenger buses will be set at 100km/h for all phases of the road,” a statement by the Abu Dhabi Police said.
Brigadier Khalifa Mohammad Al Khaiaili, Acting Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, noted that new signage has been installed indicating the road speed limits, and the radar speed limits have been changed accordingly on the three phases of the road. “Technical studies have identified the risk factors on the road, including lack of lighting, which is dangerous, especially at high speeds, and could lead to loss of control and accidents.”
