The Department of Transport, DoT, in Abu Dhabi has announced the deployment of 6,598 new on-street parking bays, both paid and unpaid, for vehicles in the city of Abu Dhabi. The service starts today, and the DoT has informed the public of the details of these new additions by distributing leaflets and brochures.
The DoT said that the paid parking bays are divided into 517 bays in sector W20, in the area between Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street from the east, Al Bateen from the west, Delma Street from the north and Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Street from the south, and 641 bays in sector W59-01, in the area between Al Karamah Street from the east, Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street from the west, Rabdan Street from the north and Al Safarat Street from the south.
The unpaid parking bays will be located in the area between Sheikh Zayed Road from the east, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street from the west, Shakhbout bin Sultan Street from the north and Salama bint Butti Street from the south. They will be distributed as 1,737 bays in sector E21, 393 in sector E26, 114 in sector E27, 969 in sector E28, 1,129 in sector E29, 526 in sector E30 and 572 in sector E39.
With regard to special needs parking bays, the DoT said that it will provide 10 parking bays for special needs in sector E29, two bays in sector W20 and six bays in sector W59-01. They called on persons wishing to allocate a special needs parking bay to submit their applications to any of the DoT Customer Care Centres.
Mohammed Hamad bin Fahd Al Muhairi, General Manager of Parking Division at the DoT, said that the implementation of the parking bays is part of the DoT's strategy to improve the transport infrastructure by providing effective, integrated and innovative solutions for parking management. According to Mr. Al Muhairi, this would allow the public easy access to various events, especially in areas where there is a significant number of vehicles, and a need to increase the number of parking bays to accommodate the growing demand.
