Abu Dhabi Quality And Conformity Council Marks World Energy Day On October 22
(22 October 2015)

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, marked World Energy Day today (October 22), by highlighting the council’s efforts in promoting energy conservation and environmental sustainability.

In line with its priority to promote energy efficiency and sustainability in Abu Dhabi, QCC is mandated to set energy conservation standards and technical requirements for all energy-consuming products and systems. The key areas in which QCC operates with the potential to impact energy demand include establishing standards, testing infrastructure, conformity assessments, consumer safety and market surveillance. The council pursues an integrated systems approach to combine these activities to ensure end-to-end quality, performance, safety and reliability of cooling systems in the emirate. The council’s energy conservation standards have been awarded the Abu Dhabi Trustmark for Environmental Performance.

As part of its energy efficiency mandate, QCC’s Product Conformity sector has launched a raft of product certification schemes that have the potential to reduce cooling demand and electricity usage in buildings and villas. These certification schemes cover air/water cooled chillers, unitary air conditioners, insulation products, glazing products, LED light fittings, efficient water fixtures and flow rate regulators. Products that achieve certification and meet the QCC certification scheme criteria are granted a certificate of conformity, permitting them to carry the Abu Dhabi Trustmark for Environmental Performance in product promotion.

To complement its energy efficiency efforts, QCC has also launched personnel certification schemes aimed at improving the capability of technicians and personnel responsible for maintaining and operating air conditioning systems. This move is anticipated to help sustain the energy efficiency performance of the above mentioned systems in the long term.

Mohammed Helal Al Balooshi, Marketing & Communications Acting Director at Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), said: “World Energy Day is a time to renew our pledge to strive for energy efficiency across our operations. QCC has long been involved in energy efficiency and demand side management initiatives that support the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 and its sustainability agenda.

“Working with various government regulators and the industry sector, we address issues related to quality and energy performance of lighting systems, air conditioning systems and other products and systems that affect energy consumption in the built environment.  As part of our quality mandate, we offer a number of certification schemes that enable manufacturers, suppliers and distributors of such products and systems to obtain voluntary certification of products that meet our stringent quality, safety and performance specifications.”

Al Balooshi added: “At QCC, we work to achieve internationally-recognized best practices in the application of energy efficiency standards. Abu Dhabi will require a multi-faceted approach to improve current practices and equipment performance associated with air conditioning systems. QCC will continue to support the government efforts in energy efficiency, water efficiency and demand side management towards a more sustainable Abu Dhabi.”

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. QCC’s mission is facilitated by empowering regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
