UAE Ministry Of Health, DHA And SEHA Unite Together To Combat Diabetes
(19 October 2015)

The ministry of health in UAE, Dubai Health authority and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) announced the start of a comprehensive program for increasing the competencies of nurses to better manage diabetes in UAE.

The ‘Diabetes Nurse Educator Program’ is conducted on 18th of October, 2015 at JW Marriott Hotel in Dubai, UAE.

This program aims to provide the nurses competencies within diabetes and diabetes related complications and diabetes management, and communication with patients with diabetes and their relatives. More than 60 high caliber nurses across the UAE are participating in this worthwhile program.

The program covers a wide range of topics for patients diagnosed with diabetes and pre-diabetes.

This advanced educational course is carried out by eminent Faculty of medical sciences together with the Department of Nursing Science at Aarhus University, Denmark. The course will give nurses ample understanding on the various ways in which different types of diabetes patients should be handled.

Professor Jens Otto LundeJørgensen, Aarhus University states that Aarhus University strives to support knowledge exchange at the highest level, and it is a great honor for us to endorse the Diabetes Nurse Educator program. By sending our leading diabetes educators to teach in this course, we contribute to an increasing worldwide attention to the proper treatment of diabetes, and it is our hope, that they will bring home new knowledge and inspiration from Dubai to equally benefit our patients in Denmark.

Diabetes is a big problem in Emirates, said Dr. Ayman Hassan, Novo Nordisk UAE General Manager. “It is estimated that almost one in five people living in the UAE have diabetes which means that each family can have someone living with diabetes. Diabetes and its complications are huge burdens due to the huge costs and resources required to manage them properly. The problem is overwhelming to handle and requires authorities, healthcare providers, Pharma industry and community to unite together to combat it,” he adds.

Dr. Hazem Aly, Medical Manager and Head of Medical UAE at Novo Nordisk added, “We at Novo Nordisk believe that this Program offers high-quality education that is an essential component of an effective diabetes treatment plan in our effort to continuously support our diabetes nurse educators in providing good quality of diabetes care to our patients in the UAE and it is at this level we can most effectively reduce any future incidents of diabetes related complications.”
