The Zakat Fund has approved almost AED2.642 million in academic scholarships to benefit 16 undergraduates as part of its education initiative launched in 2010 to help disadvantaged university students pursue higher education.
Abdullah bin Aqeedah Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund, said that helping students complete their college education is one of the fund's main priorities, adding that the Rabi Zidni Ilman or Allah, Increase My Knowledge, programme provides deserving students with limited means of assistance required to continue their studies.
Samaha Al Buraiki, Project Director, said that the grant covers university tuition fees of one-year intensive English-language courses and the TOEFL and IELTS tests.
