Distinct UAE Leadership-People Ties: Jaber
(14 September 2015)

Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of the National Media Council, has said that the martyrdom of the brave UAE soldiers has given the outside world a new image of the distinctive and special relationship that the UAE leadership shares with its people.

These comments were made last night during a television interview with Abu Dhabi TV in a special programme on the death of the soldiers.

During the programme, Dr. Al Jaber expressed his sincere condolences to the UAE leadership, its Armed Forces, and the families of the fallen soldiers, wishing the wounded a speedy recovery.

Commenting on the initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, of setting-up a Martyr Families Affairs Office, Al Jaber said, "This is not new to the leadership of the UAE which continues in the footsteps of the founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, under the guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the unlimited support and meticulous follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and their brothers Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates."

He explained that the office has been established as an effort to oversee the affairs of the families of the martyrs by providing them with all aspects of support, care and attention, adding that, "this initiative is not a surprise coming from UAE Sheikhs," as he recalled the visits that many of them made to the mourners tents to offer their condolences, as well as visiting the wounded in hospital.

During the interview, Dr. Al Jaber also spoke about the role that the UAE national media played in covering the crisis, especially on September 4th, saying that the media delivered a highly efficient response which accurately reflected - with all transparency - the "pulse of UAE society."
