Central Bank to put in circulation currency notes of AED 1000, AED 20 and AED 10 denominations for sight-impaired individuals Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates has announced that it would put in circulation from tomorrow currency notes of AED 1000, AED 20 and AED 10 denominations, reprinted with tactile marks for the blind and sight impaired people.
The banknotes will include new tactile features for the blind and sight impaired, engraved in bleed-off intaglio printing on the edge of the banknotes short sides. The tactile feature on the AED 1000 denomination consists of a pair of four horizontal lines, separated by a recognizable distance, around the middle of the right and left short
sides of the note.
The tactile feature on the AED 20 denomination consists of three separate horizontal lines, around the middle of the right and left short sides of the note. The tactile feature on the AED 10 denomination consists of two separate horizontal lines, around the middle of the right and left short sides of the note. The overall design and other specifications of the currency notes will be the same as in the currency notes currently in circulation.
The currency notes will be dispensed to banks in accordance with the Central Bank's established procedures for cash withdrawal and deposit. It is noteworthy that this preliminary step represents one of the Central Bank's attempts to enable sight-impaired individuals access all banking services, just like other customers.
