Bid To Give Abu Dhabi’s Sharia Park A Facelift
(26 August 2015)

An orchard, a sparkling dome, multi-purpose halls and health clubs are expected to change the face of Sharia Park situated 55km away from the national capital.

The public facility for women and children, which was established in 1995, is located beside Shaikh Maktoum bin Rashid Highway, between Abu Dhabi and Dubai at the intersection with Al Ajban Street, near Al Rahba city.

The mega project to revive the park is part of the Abu Dhabi City Municipality's (ADCM) goals to raise the bar on standards of parks and recreational spaces, with an objective to enhance sustainable development.

The municipality has opened a public tender for developing, investing and managing Sharia Park, with September 29 as deadline for submitting the bids.

The municipality has thus called on potential bidders, amongst specialist national firms and establishments, to visit the premises of the municipality in order to obtain the bidding documents. The aim of the project is to rejuvenate the park with a rich and traditional rendering under public-private partnership.

The developers will have to undertake the project under a Musataha (land development) agreement with the municipality.

This entitles the developer to benefit from the project's returns over 32 years, following which the municipality would take up the ownership.

Upon completion, the park will be a town of itself, capable of serving residents of Al Rahba and neighbourhoods, such as Al Bahya, Al Samha, Al Shahama, Kizad and Zayed Military City. The park is expected to attract about 100,000 people, in addition to visitors transiting between Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates.

The elements of the project will be enhanced by a host of service facilities, such as women's health centre and Spa, women's swimming pool and health club, playgrounds, multi-purpose halls, shaded playground, camping and barbeque areas, as well as a nursery.

The project spans an area of 380,000 will have orchards. It will have a venue for hosting several events, such as adventures, picturesque night lights, green spaces, periodic public events, as well as wedding services.

A splash park, which includes water games, swimming pool, swimming learning lessons, and recreational facilities, will also be included in the mega development project.

The municipality confirmed that the park will be a point of attraction for many events, such as communal festivities, equestrian activities, falcons, desert biking and similar activities.
