Possibly the first and most influential sci-fi movie ever made, The Metropolis (1927)is a stark vision of plutocracy vs. labour. Above ground, wealth and material progress. Below ground, despair and death. Look out for the pioneering SFX, still pertinent in movies such as Blade Runner and Fifth Element.
