Abu Dhabi Police Organise Firefighting Awareness Campaign
(23 August 2015)

An awareness campaign to acquaint the public and employees with the types of firefighting equipment and the process of using them to respond to home and vehicle fire incidents has been launched, the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at Abu Dhabi Police said today.

Titled ‘Be Ready’, the initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence General Directorate to spread the culture of environment, health, and occupational safety and protect society against the risks of fires.

Brigadier Mohammad Mayouf Al Ketbi, Head of Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, said: “The initiative has focused on spreading the culture of prevention; implementing safety requirements in homes, vehicles, and public facilities; acquainting individuals with the optimal use of firefighting equipment; and taking precautions to avoid the causes of fires.”

He also noted that awareness brochures have been distributed in several languages, including advice and guidance to acquaint the public with the proper ways to handle fire incidents.

The awareness programme included mock drills to test available prevention methods.

As part of the initiative’s activities, Colonel Hamed Mohammad, Chief of the Environment Health and Occupational Safety Section at the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, inaugurated the link to the environmental education programme portal on the website of the Directorate General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police. The programme is designed to spread the environment, health, and occupational safety culture in order to enhance the level of awareness among staff members.

For his part, Major Hamad Al Maamari, Director of the Director General’s office and Head of the Website Development Team at the Directorate General of Central Operations, explained that this programme, which includes a wide array of information, comes as a result of the various departments’ efforts to spread the environmental safety culture and awareness among staff members consistent with the training-related procedures on the Environment, Health and Occupational Safety Management System by educating employees at their workplace.
