One of America’s most popular morning programmes, the Today show, is set to broadcast live from Abu Dhabi Corniche on Friday, August 21.
The show will film from 2.30pm to 5pm and the best news is, everyone’s invited.
The Abu Dhabi segment of the show will be hosted by the show’s popular co-anchor, field reporter and weatherman Al Roker.
The segment came about as part of an upcoming new show on the US Travel Channel called 50/50. On Wednesday, August 19, 50/50’s co-hosts Samantha Brown and Chris Grundy hit the Today show plaza in New York, where, helped by Roker, they found three people who jumped at the chance to drop everything for a race to spend US$50,000 and 50 hours in Abu Dhabi. The capital will provide the show’s first location when it premieres in the US on Sunday, October 4.
Roker is also a writer, having co-penned a series of murder mysteries featuring Billy Blessing, a chef-turned amateur detective and this month publishing The Storm of the Century, which examines the Great Hurricane of 1900 that hit Galveston, Texas. He also holds the Guinness World Record for longest weather broadcast, having clocked in at 34 hours.
The Today show began some 63 years ago and has been a staple of the North American morning routine ever since. Featuring a mix of news, interviews, lifestyle features and a little bit of comedy, it traditionally broadcasts daily from New York - drawing massive crowds outside, no matter what the weather is. The current roster of hosts includes long-time co-host Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie and Natalie Morales on news.
The Today show, which is carried regionally on OSN, is broadcast around the world.
