(18 August 2015)

Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, is gearing up to host a series of development workshops in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to ensure the competency of testing and calibration labs across the emirate.

Set to run in Abu Dhabi from August 23 to 27 at St. Regis Hotel and in Al Ain from August 30 to September 3 at the Rotana Hotel, the sessions will draw the participation of 40 technicians and managers of quality labs, quality experts and certification bodies, and offer insights into ISO/IEC 17025 standards for testing and calibration labs.

The workshops aim to develop the competency level of testing and calibration labs in Abu Dhabi and their ability to produce validated results as part of QCC’s priority to improve competency levels in the emirate and align them with best-in-class global standards.

Medical labs are not included in this phase of the program and will be covered in September 2015.

Mohammed Helal Al Balooshi, Marketing & Communications Acting Director at Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), said: “In our ongoing pursuit to enhance the quality infrastructure and services in Abu Dhabi, QCC prioritizes the continuous improvement of our technical capabilities and related infrastructure to meet the evolving standard requirements of Abu Dhabi in order to enable both regulators and industry Our latest series of development programs reflect QCC’s proactive approach in enabling stakeholders and fulfilling the  requirements of industry for cutting-edge testing and calibration services.”

He added: “The competency of testing and calibration standards is key to raising the overall quality of products traded in Abu Dhabi, which positively reflects on the quality of life in the emirate.”

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products, while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. This is achieved through empowering regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
