QCC Sets Up Electrical Testing Laboratory
(8 July 2015)

Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) has set up an Electrical Testing Laboratory to conduct verification and type testing of all regulated electrical household appliances marketed in the UAE, especially in the Abu Dhabi market.

The facility will ensure that various electrical products traded across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western Region are duly certified and meet the statutory safety requirements set by the UAE standard requirements and regulations. This will be achieved through enhancing the market surveillance of certified products and their continued compliance with regulatory requirements through conducting verification testing.

Saeed Mohammed Al Muhairi, Acting Deputy Secretary General of Central Testing Lab, QCC, said: “The launch of our new laboratory comes in line with QCC's objectives to improve the quality and efficiency of services provided in the emirate and enhance quality infrastructure in Abu Dhabi.

The installation and commissioning of a dedicated facility to undertake electrical equipment testing and verification aims to ensure that our markets are free from products that pose potential health risks and safety hazards to consumers. The lab articulates QCC’s priority to support a competitive and robust economy in Abu Dhabi through building world class testing and calibration capabilities and promoting a culture of quality.”

The laboratory, in coordination with QCC’s Consumer and Market Services Sector, will verify all regulated household electrical appliances and provide technical know-how and expertise on product inspection. Additionally, it will enable products to comply with the Conformity Schemes requirements of the Council.

The laboratory is in the process of developing specific standard operating procedures and other documents to meet the requirements of ISO 17025, which specifies the general competence requirements for organizations performing tests and/or calibrations.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of Abu Dhabi’s exports and products traded locally. QCC sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that products manufactured and traded in the emirate conform to the highest quality standards. In addition to protecting the interests of Abu Dhabi’s consumers, QCC is mandated to support its competitive economy and integration into the global marketplace. This is achieved through enabling regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes.
