HE/Majed Al Mansouri from The Centre of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi announced the state of maximum mobilization for responding to the disastrous effects generated by the strong storm that the city of Al Ain witnessed since the evening of the day before yesterday.
òFollowing two days of wind, a strong storm including rain and hail hit Al Ain Wednesday evening. The worst damage was in the North sector of Al Ain and a specialist team from the Centre worked out a plan in coordination with LAVAJET and MBM/DALLAH that are commissioned with cleaning works in the north and south sectors.
Cooperation between both concerned contractors was carried out under the supervision of the Centre to clean up the effects of the storm, which could be seen in many districts of Al Ain. The two contractors utilized their full capacities of labourers and vehicles, dispatching crews across Al Ain.
His Excellency pointed out that: “the North sector of Al Ain was excessively damaged by the storm”, with damage concentrated at Al Foah, Hili, Masoudi, Qattara, Jimi, Towaya, Bada Bint Soud. Drifting sand was also evident at many R/As, and along the medians between the road lanes. Trees were blown over, tree branches broken, notice boards and satellite dishes were scattered and some houses collapsed due to the storm.
Rain and hail caused difficulty of movement. Many low-lying roadways filled with water, impeding traffic into the morning rush hour. Crews from both contractors and Al Ain Municipality worked diligently to clear storm drains and pump water from the roadways. Both manual labor and heavy equipment were mobilized to clear sand accumulations and to remove fallen trees in the round-abouts and roadways.
