The electricity emergency teams at Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, one of the Abu Electricity and Water Authority (ADEWA) companies, yesterday restored the power supply after a power interruption in a record time.
The glitch occurred when the underground tanker cables were hit, leading to power-cuts in the Zayed Sports City and neighbouring areas. The incident occurred at one o'clock in the afternoon due to the excavation work carried out by one of the companies, leading to damage in the power grid infrastructure. This had interrupted power supply to a number of government and private institutions and residences in the area.
Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Acting Director General of Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, said this emergency breakdown was beyond the scope of the company, but "we managed to deal with it as quickly as possible, thanks to the preparedness of the emergency teams."
