Yas Marina Circuit has today announced the return of its hugely successful homegrown, single-make championship, the TRD 86 Cup, and is calling on all budding racing drivers to register now.

Following the success of the series’ first season that saw Karim Al Azhari beat off fierce competition to be crowned champion, the TRD 86 Cup is back for yet another thrilling season of closely fought on-track competition. 

The championship gives amateur drivers the chance to lead their very own race team in a real competition, all at the UAE home of Formula 1®. And the fact that last year’s grid enjoyed strong Emirati participation is a testament to the popularity of the sport in the UAE.

The selected competitors will receive their own, customised, race-ready Toyota 86 car – theirs to keep – and will get to pick their own race support team. Yas Marina Circuit will provide each team with further support from a professional crew.

With all cars being equal spec, drivers can hone and develop their racing skills over the course of the championship on an even technical playing field. Part of the popular Yas Racing Series, the season will take place over 12 rounds on six race weekends between October 2015 and April 2016, and fans can attend for just AED 25 per event.

Yas Marina Circuit created the TRD 86 Cup through its Yas Motor Racing Club as part of its commitment to creating and nurturing the growth of a sustainable motorsports community in the UAE by supporting affordable, accessible racing.

For an entry cost of 177,000 AED, drivers will receive their own race-ready Toyota 86 Cup car, based on the TMG GT86. They will race head to head on different layouts at the circuit, competing for a place on the podium.

The race package includes other benefits, such as a waiver on race fees for the first season, two free track days at Yas Marina Circuit with 60 per cent discount on all subsequent track days, and a choice of a private tuition session or license assessment.

Parts will be sold in the paddock during race weekends by the championship’s partner TRD, and the official tyre partner, Pirelli will provide a mobile tyre fitting and wheel balancing service as well.
