Building new links and boosting bilateral relations between key market players is crucial to achieving sustainability in energy, said industry experts at a private event for the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC).
Speaking to an audience of 90 industry professionals and decision makers at ADIPEC’s prestigious ‘Ambassador’s Day’ event, Mr Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, Director of Strategy & Coordination at ADNOC and ADIPEC 2015 Chairman, and Mr. Saif Ahmed Alghfeli, CEO of Al Hosn Gas and ADIPEC 2015 Co-Chairman, joined members of ADIPEC’s Executive Committee and the Middle East Petroleum Club, as well as senior representatives from 50 countries to emphasize the critical role that international relationships play in meeting the growing global energy demand.
“The annual Ambassador’s Day is an ideal platform to emphasise the importance of integrating international business and government efforts in achieving sustainability in the energy industry,” said Mr. Al Shamsi. “This year’s event will bring industry leaders together from across the world to demonstrate how best industry practices can be implemented through productive cooperation.”
“In order to secure energy resources for generations to come, we need to apply innovation in everything we do, and this can only be achieved by sharing knowledge and expertise,” said Mr. Alghfeli. “As an oil and gas industry hub that provides security and connectivity, Abu Dhabi offers an ideal setting where the brightest minds in the industry come together to engage in constructive discussions that can pave the way to a sustainable energy future.”
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, organised by dmg events, and supported by the UAE Ministry of Energy and the Abu Dhabi Chamber, ADIPEC 2015 will take place from the 9thto 12thNovember, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The pioneering energy event is poised for continued growth, expanding to 110,000 gross square meters – a 10,000 square-meter increase from last year, including a purpose-built Offshore, Marine & Heavy Equipment Zone for maritime exhibitors.
The number of countries participating in ADIPEC 2015 is also set to surpass last year’s record of 20 international pavilions, 18 National Oil Companies, and 17 International Oil Companies.
Nigeria, one of the world’s leading oil exporters, is one of the countries to confirm presence at ADIPEC this year, with a dedicated pavilion representing key businesses from the industry. According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil producer, and sits among the world’s top five exporters of LNG.
“Partaking in ADIPEC has proven to be valuable to us from the time of our first participation in 2013,” said Mr. Ibrahim Auwalu, Nigerian Ambassador to the UAE. “The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation looks forward to this event on an annual basis for the numerous opportunities it provides. We are always impressed with the quality of content at the exhibition and conference, and this is clearly reflected in the growing number of exhibitors and attendees year on year.”
Japan, one of the world’s largest consumers of natural gas and petroleum, is another nation set to participate in ADIPEC 2015. The EIA indicated that the government's energy strategy encourages Japanese businesses to increase global energy exploration and development projects to secure a stable supply of oil and natural gas.
“The Middle East is an important region for us, as it provides nearly 80 percent of our oil supply. ADIPEC gives us an opportunity to connect with leading suppliers and build essential relationships in the region,” said Mr Takuya Maeba, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Japan to the UAE. “Our State Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry attended the event last year and expressed the contentment of his participation. This year, the Japanese Oil Development Co., Ltd. looks forward to participating again, and will be joined by a number of other Japanese organizations.”
With global demand for energy expected to grow by 37 percent by 2040, countries are increasingly looking to energy-related events to explore viable options for securing sustainable resources. Thailand, for instance, is considering participation in ADIPEC this year for the first time. While the country is a significant oil and natural gas producer, it also relies on imports to sustain the nation’s rising fuel demand.
“Technology and innovation are key to enhancing oil and gas exploration and production efforts,” said Mr. Tachasit Prasittirat, First Secretary at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi. “Events such as ADIPEC can offer important insights pertaining to the adoption of the latest innovations to evolve our energy sector.”
ADIPEC 2015 is expected to attract a higher number of attendees compared to last year, as well as 7,000 delegates, and 2,000 exhibitors from across 120 countries in its largest event to date.
