GoYAS and TrainYAS, Yas Marina Circuit’s hugely popular weekly community health and fitness initiatives, will turn pink next week to raise money and drive awareness for the early detection of breast cancer.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, more than 4,500 people are expected to participate in “The CareVan Circuit” – a special activation under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Hissa bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, held in collaboration with Yas Marina Circuit.
Pink ribbons, bike hire, exercise classes and clothing from yApparel will be available on site, with all proceeds going to Pink Caravan for the purchase of a mobile breast cancer screening unit – or ‘CareVan’.
Pink Caravan is a breast cancer awareness initiative launched in 2011 by Friends of Cancer Patients. It aims to raise awareness around the early detection of breast cancer and encourage both men and women to perform self-examination and regular medical check-ups.
H.H. Sheikha Hissa bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, said: “We are looking forward to this event, the purpose of which is to raise funds towards the purchase of the CareVan, a state-of-the-art mobile cancer-screening unit that will operate year round and be of benefit to all residents of the UAE. Unfortunately, many of us have had loved ones struck by cancer, and if there are two points to take home from this week at Yas Marina Circuit, they are: that men can be diagnosed with breast cancer, and that early detection of breast cancer has a survival rate of nearly 98 per cent.”
H.E. Ameera BinKaram, President of the Board of Trustees and a Founding Member of the Friends of Cancer Patients society (FoCP), added: “Since Pink Caravan’s launch in 2011, our goal is to tackle a serious health issue affecting everyone, to raise awareness and drive accurate information around the disease and to highlight the crucial importance of regular self-checks and screening by medical professionals.”
“The funds raised during such campaigns and activations are used to support breast cancer patients and provide the latest technology in early screening process and detection of breast cancer and to ensure the services’ are accessible to every woman and man in the Emirates”.
This is the latest in a series of charity activations within the popular GoYAS and TrainYAS, which last year held special events for breast cancer with ‘Circuit’s on the Circuit’ and ‘Globeathon’ in aid of gynaecological cancers.
Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit added: “It is a privilege for us to be able to harness the fantastic success and community spirit of TrainYAS and GoYAS for such an important and potentially lifesaving cause.
“At Yas Marina Circuit we don’t just provide a unique venue for the community to improve their fitness and effect a positive change in their lifestyles, but we also aim to contribute to public awareness regarding all aspects of health”.
The popular Ripe Stand will be on site at the circuit, selling its delicious, organic produce to visitors at TrainYAS and GoYAS, providing an extra nutritional fillip to wellbeing. Organisers also revealed that those attending will get the chance to win a one-night stay for two persons at the Anantara Resort in a prize draw.
Attendees to both TrainYAS & GoYAS will be able to make a donation to the charity.
