Abu Dhabi Airports Invites Bids For Soft Landscaping For Airport MTC
(14 April 2015)

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has invited expressions of interest from companies for the soft landscaping design and build project at the new Midfield Terminal Complex, which is under construction at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Located between the airport’s two runways, the new terminal is designed to minimise passenger walking distance and maximise aircraft parking space, said the company in a statement.

The complex will have 39 new gates with a capability to expand up to 49. The terminal contains large column-free zones with a soaring roof supported by steel arches placed at long spaces, it added.

According to Adac, the scope of work on the landscaping project includes designing, supervision, labour materials, plant and equipment in addition to delivery, installation and maintenance for the full execution of the contract.

The project involves irrigation, hard landscape, lighting and planting. The landscaping covers an area of 1.85 million square meters intersected by a number of elevated and recessed roads.

Adac said the last date for submitting the bid is April 18.

Quoting a senior official, a Wam report said the Dh10.8 billion (US$ 2.94 billion) MTC project will be 60 to 65 per cent complete by the end of the year and is slated to open in July 2017.

Adac chairman Ali Majed Al Mansouri said last month that there has been “some changes” to the design but that construction remains on schedule, adding that the variations in design were due to the “complexity of the building and changes in technology”.

The airport will be fully operational by the end of 2017, Al Mansouri said, though it is currently being assessed whether to open entirely or in phases from July 2017.

Almost 40 per cent of the steel structure has been completed and all the glazing will be finished by the end of next month or early June, Al Mansouri added.
