Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), managed by the Cleveland Clinic, will be discussing marital and social problems as part of their series of public health talks on mental health.
Open to members of the public, patients and medical professionals, the theme of this lecture is “The Harmony in Marital Life: Is it a Hard Target?” and is aimed at creating awareness around marital problems and their relation to mental health.
The lecture takes place at 6:30 pm on Tuesday 7 April 2015 in the Behavioural Sciences Pavilion (BSP) auditorium at SKMC.
During the talk, which will be given in Arabic, Dr. Tarek Darwish, Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director of BSP will address different topics such as ways and solutions for a successful and happy marital relation, prevention of marital problems, and the effect of marital problems on children and family.
“Experience shows a correlation between marital status and mental health. Actually, the nature of marital relations explains a couple’s success or failure social in society. Such health talks help us as healthcare professionals to highlight the importance of mental health as well as minimising social problems in the community, which unfortunately many people neglect or misunderstand,” Dr. Darwish said.
“The invitation is directed to the public, especially married couples, and we highly encourage them to attend this gathering to help raise awareness on the importance of a successful marital life. Our mission is to increase the awareness of the public about mental health in addition to providing advanced psychiatry services that meet internationally recognised standards of excellence to the residents of the UAE,” said Dr. Maha Al Ameri, Director of BSP.
The discussion panel for this event includes Dr. Rami Nizar Al Shihabi, Clinical Psychologist, Mrs. Tahini Mostafa, Psychologist, and Mrs. Turfa Al Zaabi, Social Affairs Specialist.
This health talk is part of the Mental Health Awareness Program that started in March 2010, and includes a series of health talks in Arabic language every month on different topics related to mental health and social problems.
SKMC is part of the SEHA Health System and is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The Mental Health Awareness Program is organized by the BSP of SKMC, a comprehensive psychiatric facility committed to providing mental health treatment services in the UAE. The program consists of monthly public health talks about different topics related to mental health in the Arabic language. The talks are given by a panel of mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists as well as social workers from the BSP. Each session includes a question and answer session to answer the attendees’ inquiries.
