Abu Dhabi Warriors Is Back And It’s Bigger And Stronger!
(25 March 2015)

The countdown has begun for the second Abu Dhabi Warriors Fighting Championship, the UAE’s much-awaited and biggest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition scheduled to start at 7.00 pm, on March 26, at the IPIC Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

“MMA is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and amongst the most up and coming in the UAE. With Abu Dhabi Warriors back for the 2nd time, we aim to help establish Abu Dhabi as a landmark for the international MMA tournaments through bringing in new talent and supporting the development of youth and sports in the UAE,” said Lubomir Guedjev, the managing director of Abu Dhabi Warriors.

Backed by UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, one of the key bodies supporting the growth of Jiu-Jitsu in the country, the competition will showcase the skills and sportsmanship of international fighters in the true spirit of MMA, based on the values of respect, honor, commitment and sportsmanship.

“We are here to support the growing popularity of this sport and strive to feature the best that MMA has to offer; we want to provide our fans the ultimate platform where they can truly experience the force and dedication behind this sport and take home a learning experience that promotes the importance of discipline, and values of respect, hard work and honor,” commented Guedjev.

MMA fighters cross train in disciplines such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai, wrestling, boxing and kickboxing, using striking and grappling techniques to counter their opponent's strengths in matches that can last from three 5-minute rounds to five 5-minute rounds. The fast-paced energy of the matches and quick reflexes of the fighters make MMA one of the most popular combat sports in recent times.

The AD Warriors, will highlight all this action and more in the UAE, as MMA gladiators from the US, UK, Russia, Canada, Korea, Thailand, Sweden, Serbia, Austria, China, Japan, France and Ukraine will compete in a series of exciting fights in different weight classes.

The first championship, held in 2012, was dominated by heavyweight Maro Perak who beat Travis Wiuff. Other wins included Yevgeniy Mahteenko, who beat Jose Landi-Jons and Kazunori Yokota, who earned a submission win against Anatoly Safronov.

This year the competition will be tougher and more thrilling with a showdown expected between former Strikeforce heavyweight prospect Brett Rogers and tough Derrick Mehmen in the main event. The heavily stacked fight card for the championship also features clashes between French kickboxing expert Xavier Foupa-Pokam and Moldavian fighter Pavel Doroftei, who trains and fights in England; Judo background English fighter Jim Wallhead vs Rodrigo Ribeiro from Brazil who works in Abu Dhabi under the JJ Project; Baga Agaev from Russia versus Mike Kyle from the US and Max Nunes from Sweden against Alexander Dolotenko from Ukraine.

“With an immense support and interest from the UAE leaders, we believe that this tournament will be a huge success,” added Guedjev.

The event’s key sponsors are AD Sports, Star FM, International Golden Group, and Palm Sports.

Tickets for the event are available at Virgin Megastores across the UAE.
