Anantara Hotels Resorts & Spas Announces Support For 2nd Annual Sir Bani Yas Offshore Race 2015
(15 March 2015)

On 16th April 2015, 20 yachts will take to the glistening waters of the Arabian Gulf for the second annual Sir Bani Yas Offshore Race 2015. Anantara Hotels Resorts & Spas has announced sponsorship of racing yacht “Shahrazad”, who was the overall winner last year and is considered one of the top inshore and offshore competitors in the region.

Before the exhilarating race begins, the yachts will depart the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club for Abu Dhabi on Thursday 16thApril, where they will stay overnight. The crew will then continue to navigate the Gulf waters and the Abu Dhabi islands before arriving the next day at Sir Bani Yas Island.

On arrival at the island, the crews, their families and spectators will be welcomed by the hospitality of three Anantara resorts including Anantara Al Sahel Villa Resort, set within the acclaimed Arabian Wildlife Park, Anantara Al Yamm Villa Resort on the eastern beaches and family friendly Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara on the north shore. Competing crew members and their families will be welcomed with the annual Pre-Race Party offering sumptuous cuisine and a few relaxed drinks with friends at the beachside Amwaj restaurant.

The official race leg of the Sir Bani Yas Offshore Race 2015 will commence on Saturday, 18th April before reaching the finishing line in Dubai the next day followed by a prize giving.

Sponsors of the event include Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas, Tourism Development and Investment Company, Desert Islands Sir Bani Yas Abu Dhabi, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, Rotana Jet and Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

In 2014, ‘Shahrazad’ won the Sir Bani Yas Offshore Race 2014 and is a hot favourite to win again this year.  According to skipper, David Worrall, “Shahrazad is regularly winning the Division 2 sailing events, but we don’t often race against the faster and mostly larger Division 1 boats.  The Sir Bani Yas Offshore Race definitely tests our boat and our skill on the water in reading the weather conditions and sailing the course back to Dubai,”

Mrs Sharon Garrett–Otter, Area Director of Marketing & Communications for Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas in Abu Dhabi said,  “Last year Anantara was delighted to actively participate not only as a hotel venue sponsor but also through our partnership with skipper David Worrall and the crew of racing yacht ‘Shahrazad’ which saw our logo and branding proudly displayed on their Spinnaker as they made their way along the glistening waters of the UAE to take top honours in this adrenalin-packed race.”

“The Sir Bani Yas Offshore Race 2015 is an important date on our Anantara calendar, and we are thrilled that we are able to sponsor ‘Shahrazad’ again this year.  The crew really made us proud last year winning and we wish them every success again this year.”

Alongside the 20 racing yachts there will be pleasure yachts and power boats also making the journey with special resort packages available for both sailors and spectators at all three of the island’s Anantara properties. Known for luxury amidst a natural and rugged landscape with diverse wildlife, Sir Bani Yas Island is one of the most treasured destinations, within the United Arab Emirates.  Embark on your next journey of discovery at anantara.com
