The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded Alpin Limited’s energy-efficient headquarters in Masdar City LEED Gold certification for its commercial interior, the first to receive this designation in Abu Dhabi. A building information modelling, commissioning and green building consultancy, Alpin employed its expertise to make its offices in the Masdar Free Zone more sustainable.
“Our company is committed to promoting high performance buildings with healthy interior environments that foster employee well-being and productivity,” says Jourdan Younis, managing director of Alpin Limited. “This distinguished accolade demonstrates that we are willing to walk the talk by applying the same high standards in our own offices.”
Alpin Limited achieved a 46 per cent reduction in energy and water consumption compared to a standard office building in Abu Dhabi. These numbers complement Masdar City’s overarching goal to reduce energy and water use by 40 per cent in all buildings. The company also achieved 100 per cent natural lighting, 100 per cent views to the outside for all offices, and fresh air quality that exceeds ASHRAE standards by 30 per cent.
“When Alpin Limited joined Masdar City’s growing clean-tech cluster, they challenged themselves to build upon the stringent design and efficiency standards we maintain for our own developments,” says Ahmed Baghoum, director of Masdar Free Zone. “Along with the added value in operational efficiency, Masdar Free Zone companies share the benefits of the region’s most advanced clean-technology hub in a sustainable and aesthetically-pleasing environment.”
Alpin Limited is located in Masdar’s Free Zone, a tax-free hub committed to advancing clean technology and renewable energy that offers 100 per cent foreign ownership and repatriation of capital and profits.
“This LEED Gold certification reaffirms how it is possible to achieve the three pillars of sustainability – economic, environmental and social – simultaneously, and sets a benchmark for others to emulate,” says Dr. Nawal Al Hosany, director of sustainability at Masdar. “We applaud this achievement and will continue to support any organisation in developing or enhancing their sustainability agenda.”
One of the world’s most recognized green building codes, LEED for Interior Design and Construction (LEED ID+C) encourages businesses to develop indoor spaces that utilize natural light and passive design to ensure a low-energy and comfortable work space.
