The advent of new technology and the use of gadgets such as smartphones, tablets and laptops in everyday life has made it necessary to teach children how to use technology at an early age. It has become imperative for schools to create a syllabus that includes such teaching practices that meets the need of the modern day.
One such school in Abu Dhabi has done just that and included technology as a core component in their teaching methods for each and every child. Recently launched on Al Reem Island, Repton Abu Dhabi is a school based on traditional values, delivering a 21st century curriculum in a kind and supportive environment. While Repton Abu Dhabi boasts 1-1 iPads for each and every child, only 9% of British schools have this access, which includes independent schools.
In lieu of this Repton Abu Dhabi recently introduced its first ‘Appy Monday’ that was held on the 9th of March, that saw the pupils and teachers dedicating an entire day to utilizing educational Apps. The Apps were chosen by the teachers as per the proficiency level of the students, with younger children working on simple Apps to help learn to write the alphabets and older students worked on more advanced Apps enabling them to create their own animated story.
“In support of our children’s learning, we firmly believe in the benefits of using technology. We are fortunate to be the first school in the Middle East to run ‘Skoolbo’, a live and interactive Maths and English game which allows children to compete with their peers around the world, consolidating their numerical and literacy skills as they play,” commented Robert Relton, Headmaster at Repton Abu Dhabi.
Appy Monday is just one of the many initiatives that Repton run for their children. If you are interested in knowing more, please contact the Admissions department who will gladly offer a tour and explain more about digital literacy, embedding IT into the curriculum as well plans for Repton Abu Dhabi's second site soon to be open.
