Mushrif Central Park Opens Its Doors on March 20th
(9 March 2015)

Mushrif Central Park, formerly Mushrif Park, opens after two years of redevelopment, changing Abu Dhabi’s offering of community spaces. The project by Abu Dhabi-based Al Ain Properties opens for the community on Friday, March 20th 2015. There will be several fun-filled community celebrations for children and adults throughout the weekend in the park’s new venues including Abu Dhabi’s first outdoor Amphitheatre in a park and a striking Shade House with an indoor botanic garden.

The official opening day for the public will be on Friday, March 20th 2015 which will include a range of family-friendly activities and workshops from kite making to sports games, storytelling shows, and a drum circle. The community day will be free to the public from 12pm to 6pm. The park’s opening weekend festivities will continue throughout the weekend until Saturday, March 21st 2015 with the inaugural weekly Ripe Food & Craft Market at Mushrif Central Park in partnership with Al Bayt Mitwahid Association from 4pm to 9pm.

The park is located on 15th Street between Airport Road and Karamah Street and is one of the largest and oldest parks in Abu Dhabi. The new park features a variety of facilities including a Shade House, Animal Barn, Amphitheatre, Great Lawn, Botanic Garden, Children’s Garden and Evening Garden. The Animal Barn is operated in partnership with Emirates Park Zoo and will house 12 animals including a camel, baby goat, cow and a pony. The Amphitheatre is a large outdoor performing arts venue which can accommodate over 1,000 people. The Shade House is an iconic structure towering over the park which houses several species of plants in a moisture controlled environment and has two upper-level decks offering a picturesque view of the park and the surrounding landscape. In keeping with the park’s history and heritage, over 200 trees from the old park have been salvaged and positioned in their original spaces throughout the park. The park provides a unique recreational addition to Abu Dhabi’s community spaces with its quality features.

In preparation of the park’s reopening, an extensive community engagement programme was carried out with key community groups, government agencies and schools. The objective of the initiative, the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi, was to establish relationships with the community and share with them the park’s redevelopment plans. The comments and suggestions received were carefully considered and implemented wherever possible into the design and operations. The community’s contribution ensures that there will be something for all to enjoy at the park.

Mr. Abdul Aziz Husain Ahmed, CEO of Al Ain Properties, comments: “We are proud to announce the reopening of Mushrif Central Park and introduce it to the Abu Dhabi community. The park’s design captures and honours the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s legacy of conservation and his love of nature. We hope that the park will become a community hub for the entire Abu Dhabi community just as the old park had been part of in Abu Dhabi’s history and memory since 1982.”
