ADP To Launch GCC Traffic Week On March 8, 2015
(28 February 2015)

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, is completing preparations for the grand launch of the 31st GCC Traffic Week, which runs from 8 to 19 March 2015 in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region under the slogan “Your Choice Determines Your Destiny”. The week’s events come in line with the approach of social communication and aim at boosting partnership with the different segments of society in the effort to preserve lives and property.

The event also reflects the police leadership’s commitment to pursue its strategy, which has already yielded a significant improvement in the traffic safety indicators during the past five years; and to further implement its plan to reach zero fatalities in the next five years, according to the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision.

Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, revealed that the events’ program of the 31st GCC Traffic Week in Abu Dhabi will include a number of new interactive activities aimed at spreading the traffic culture among the different society segments. “This approach is based on the firm belief that traffic culture is the key component to achieve a sustainable traffic safety and the fundamental pillar towards enhancing drivers’ behavior,” he said.

Colonel Al Ameri also pointed out that the official inauguration ceremony of the 31st GCC Traffic Week in Abu Dhabi will take place at Yas Mall, and will include a set of awareness-oriented activities, lectures and extensive programs. “The events’ program in Abu Dhabi will include setting up stands across several major malls; workshops, lectures, seminars, educational contests, and free painting studio. It will also feature videos that are designed to improve road users’ driving behavior, using innovative simulation means; which highlight the psychological and physical impacts of traffic accidents,” he added.

Colonel Al Ameri explained that the main goal of the Traffic Week events is to pursue further unrelenting efforts to ensure the highest levels of traffic awareness among citizens and residents, and to remind them of the importance of observing traffic rules. He also called upon individuals and society institutions to activate social partnership, with the aim of achieving the directorate’s vision of  a safe society and zero fatalities.

In conclusion, Colonel Al Ameri said that traffic accidents have become one of the key issues that threaten the safety and security of societies on all levels. He said: “Traffic safety is the top priority on the directorate’s agenda. It includes organizing traffic-related campaigns, programs and activities on a regular basis, in addition to field visits to several entities and private and public institutions.”
