ADFD Discusses Strengthening Collaborative Ties With Sierra Leone

A high-level government delegation from the Republic of Sierra Leone headed by His Excellency Henry Macauley, Minister of Energy in Sierra Leone, met with His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) to examine ways for strengthening mutual cooperation between the two countries and supporting development projects in the African nation in line with its development priorities.

During the meeting that was held at the ADFD headquarters, the two sides reviewed the progress of development projects funded by ADFD in the Republic of Sierra Leone including the AED20 million Toki - Lome road development and the AED33 million Freetown solar energy project.

Examining effective mechanisms to develop Sierra Leone’s key economic sectors towards achieving its development goals, His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, stressed the importance of adhering to specific timelines in implementing funded projects.

The two sides also explored avenues of future cooperation in the area of renewable energy projects. For his part, Henry Macauley briefed Al Suwaidi on his government’s future strategy in the field of energy.

Thanking the Sierra Leone Minister and the accompanying delegation for their visit to the ADFD headquarters, Al Suwaidi pointed out that the fund is keen to collaborate with the Republic of Sierra Leone on new projects that can help accelerate economic development in the country, provided the projects are aligned to the strategic objectives of ADFD.

Established in 1971, ADFD is a national organization responsible for assisting developing countries through administering loans and direct grant aid on behalf of the Abu Dhabi government. The fund aims to promote sustainable socio-economic development and private sector growth in target countries. Since its inception, ADFD has overseen the provision of AED64 billion towards financing 425 development projects in 72 countries around the world.
