The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG) along with the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) and Abu Dhabi based Sustainability To Action (STA) are proud to introduce the first Abu Dhabi Sustainable Business Leadership Forum, taking place in the UAE capital on the 17th and 18th of February 2015.
On the eve of the Forum, ADSG will announce the winners of the ADSG Sustainable Business Leadership Awards at the celebratory Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony on 16th February. They will also recognise ADSG members who have completed reports on sustainability during the ceremony.
Huda Al Houqani, ADSG's Director, speaking at a press conference organised today at Anantara Eastern Mangroves Hotel in Abu Dhabi said, "Over 40 high caliber sustainability professionals will be speaking at the forum that includes VIP speakers Sheikh Abdulalaziz Al Nuaimi, Razan Mubarak, Secretary General, Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), Ibrahim Al Ansaari, CEO, Dolphin Energy, Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani, Director General, Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development (ADCED) and Jan Thesleff, Ambassador of Sweden to the UAE".
"The forum will include a variety of plenary sessions around sustainability in the MENA regions, as well as breakout sessions. ADSG look forward to working with many sustainability professionals to promote sustainable business within the MENA regions, as part of the ADSG strategy 2014-2019" Al Houqani added.
"ADSG would like to thank their sponsors Dolphin Energy, Health Authority-Abu Dhabi and ADNOC, Official Airline Partner Etihad Airways and Academic Research Partner, Northumbria University, for their help and support in organising this forum", she added.
During the press conference, ADSG also announced the successful launch of the Energy Management Programme in partnership with Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS/WWF). Emirates Wildlife Society brought their cutting edge Energy Efficiency game, which takes the user through the process of reducing energy consumption in a typical office.. The game proved exceptionally popular with participants and provided thought provoking challenges throughout.
Speaking after the launch, Tanzeed Alam, Climate & Energy Director at EWS-WWF, said: "Emirates Wildlife Society-WWF is pleased to collaborate with the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group during the launch of their Energy Efficiency Flagship Programme by providing their members our interactive capacity building activity on energy and water efficiency in the workplace. The private sector has an immense opportunity to participate in reducing the UAE's carbon emissions by reducing energy and water consumption. The development of professionally qualified energy managers is crucial to conserve energy and water in the UAE and tackle climate change, and ADSG's programme is a step in the right direction." ADSG will be developing a certified energy management training course in partnership with Energy Institute as part of the next steps in this flagship programme. It will provide accredited training to a minimum of 10 Abu Dhabi based organisations, offering them the opportunity to pursue further professional development in the field. The programme was initiated earlier this year through efforts made as part of the ADSG strategy 2014-2019. ADSG already have many members committed to the programme including National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Department of Transport, Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, Dolphin Energy, Aramex, Al Ain Municipality, Rotana and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank.
