Abu Dhabi Police Participate In Al Hosn Festival
(11 February 2015)

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters is participating in the third Qasr Al Hosn Festival, which commenced on Wednesday evening.

Colonel Saif Al Shamesi, Chief of the Cultural and Sporting Activity Section at the Clubs Department, said that as many as 100 Abu Dhabi Police officers and staff members led the festival’s opening ceremony parade from Qasr Al Manhal to the gate of Qasr Al Hosn, wearing their traditional old uniforms, used in the early days of the Foundation stage in 1957. They were welcomed at the fort’s gate by 50 other officers, with 20 others manning the old police station on the grounds of the old fort.

He said: “The Abu Dhabi Police, which first had a Police Station at Qasr Al Hosn in 1959, has a replica of that station at the festival, and was set up north of the Qasr al Hosn, where the station was originally located.  Police officers dressed in the old style uniform entertain visitors with the same old chants and slogans they used to sing. There are five old police patrols at various locations within the fort, showing off in daily rounds, providing protection and security to the festival and visitors during the festival.”

Adding further, Colonel Al Shamesi referred to the first-time participation of the Al Ain Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department, showcasing old documents and passports that were used before the establishment of the United Arab Emirates, on December 2nd, 1971. He also noted that a photo gallery will be held at the old police station, shedding the light on the different phases of building, establishment, development and excellence. The Special Tasks Department is also participating with various events and shows at the festival, along with the Police Schools Department and the Police College.
