Tadweer Marks National Environment Day
(9 February 2015)

Tadweer (Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi) has lined up a host of initiatives to commemorate National Environment Day that is being held this year under the theme 'The Green Economy: Innovation and Sustainability’.

The center’s participation in the annual event on February 4 is in response to a call by the UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, inviting members of the community to actively contribute to the protection of the UAE environment. Tadweer joins other government entities and the people of the UAE in observing the National Environment Day for the eighth consecutive year as part of its commitment to safeguarding the country’s natural resources and increasing environmental awareness across all levels.

Tadweer’s month-long activities have already kicked off in the capital city with a workshop highlighting effective methods of utilizing and reusing household wastes. Held in Al Shamkha area for women and housewives, the “My Capital” campaign underlined their crucial role in environment protection through the adoption of day to day practices in waste reduction, reuse and recycling. Expanding its reach, Tadweer will conduct several awareness seminars at kindergartens in Al Ain to spread the environmental message among their staff.

Tadweer will also participate in the Environmental Ambassadors Program hosted by Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) through presenting a show on innovation in waste management. In addition, it will host workshops during Sultan Bin Zayed Heritage Festival in Sweihan to educate housewives on ways to create useful artworks from waste.

Tadweer’s activities also include a nation-wide awareness drive in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge), as well as awareness seminars at public and private universities in the emirate with a view to educating students about Tadweer’s  recycling services, projects and environmental prizes.

His Excellency Eisa Saif Al Qubaisi, General Manager, Tadweer (Center of Waste Management), said: "Tadweer is committed to encouraging positive environment behavior among the people of Abu Dhabi towards supporting the emirate’s vision for sustainable development. National Environment Day is a unique opportunity to reiterate our commitment and responsibilities to increasing awareness among our target audience through engaging in events and programs that articulate the importance of the three R’s of waste management."

Tadweer is the key government entity tasked with the collection, maintenance, transportation, and the processing of waste in a safe, efficient and economically-viable manner in Abu Dhabi. Tadweer achieves its goals through the implementation of best-in-class integrated waste management systems and sustainable models.
