Some of Abu Dhabi's finest hotel establishments and a selection of tourism attractions are set to be recognised for their efforts to boost the appeal of the emirate to the booming Chinese travel market.
Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), in partnership with China Tourism Academy (CTA), will issue the Chinese travel industry's highly sought-after Welcome Chinese certification to over 20 hotels and attractions at an ceremony being staged in the UAE capital.
In recent years we've made tremendous progress in the number of Chinese guests our hotels and attractions are receiving, but we need them to see more and stay longer when they are here said Sultan Al Dhaheri, Acting Executive Director Tourism TCA Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi welcomed 120,350 guests from China in 2014 - an increase of 166% on the previous year - catapulting it into the top-five producing overseas markets, although Chinese guests post one of the lowest average lengths of stay at just 1.67 nights.
In acknowledging the efforts undertaken by these establishments to provide a set of overseas travel service standards approved and released by the China Tourism Academy, Chinese visitors will have greater confidence in the range and quality of our product, added Al Dhaheri.
TCA Abu Dhabi is supporting the initiative and will host a gala dinner for delegates and destination familiarisation activities for attending Chinese delegates and media.
Welcome Chinese is a certification issued by CTA to hospitality and attraction providers within Abu Dhabi which provide services dedicated to Chinese travellers.
It is estimated that by 2020, the size of the Chinese outbound travel market will exceed 200 million annually, said Mr Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Academy.
As the Chinese market matures, travel patterns are also likely to change to encompass cultural experiences, leisure and resorts, health and well-being tourism and even travel to a single destination for extended stays to enjoy and experience the high-quality life at the destination, he added.
By participating in the programme, certified members will be qualified to join CTA's partnership network and enjoy great benefits in marketing and promotion to the Chinese outbound travel market.
The certified hotels will receive increased visibility to the Chinese travel industry through a series of organised road shows, participation in international travel fairs, on- and offline marketing initiatives, and a presence on the CTA website and social media channels.
TCA Abu Dhabi's dedicated representation office in Beijing will also be able to participate in the activities to push wider destination awareness.
Abu Dhabi has played host to an increasing number of high profile events addressing the Chinese travel industry, welcoming the third Chinese Visitor Summit and 500 leading Asia Pacific travel industry professionals of the Abacus International Convention, Asia Pacific's leading provider of travel solutions and services in 2014.
These were preceded by the mega NU SKIN incentive which saw 10,000 of the beauty products company's staff and affiliates come to the UAE in April 2014 to celebrate the outstanding performance of its business partners.
The Welcome Chinese certification awards ceremony will be held on February 9 at the Yas Island Rotana Hotel.
