Pepsico Presents Industry-Leading Achievements In Water Sustainability At International Water Summit 2015
(21 January 2015)

PepsiCo, one of the world’s leading food and beverage companies, presented several breakthrough accomplishments in the areas of water conservation and replenishment at the International Water Summit 2015 (IWS). The company declared that it exceeded its 2015 global goal of improving water-use efficiency by 20 percent per unit of production.  PepsiCo is the official beverage partner of IWS, a unique global platform for promoting water sustainability in arid regions.

During a panel discussion titled “Water Stewardship to Improve Local Water Sources and Enable Commercial Sustainability through a Value Driven Strategic Approach”, Liese Dallbauman, Director of Water Stewardship for PepsiCo’s global food and beverage businesses, unveiled a series a measures the company has taken to reduce water use by more than 20 percent per unit of production from a 2006 baseline, from improving leak detection to harvesting rainwater. Later, Vivek Bharati, Vice-President, Agriculture and Corporate Affairs, PepsiCo India, presented a case study on PepsiCo’s approach to water sustainability in India.  The two presenters led a delegation of PepsiCo senior executives attending the event.

“Our partnering with the International Water Summit reflects the importance that water sustainability plays in our business as well as in the communities where our employees and customers live and work,” said Sanjeev Chadha, CEO of PepsiCo Asia, Middle East & Africa, which has its headquarters in the UAE. “Through our participation at the summit, we also want to highlight the initiatives we’ve undertaken to tackle water scarcity issues globally and the importance of public private partnerships to achieve positive results. For us, the necessity of water stewardship is immediate; there is no business without water.  We owe it to ourselves and to future generations to be responsible stewards of this limited resource.”

IWS 2015 brings together world leaders, field experts, academia luminaries and business innovators to accelerate the development of new sustainable strategies and technologies. Held under the patronage of H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, IWS fosters innovation, best practice and collaboration, to offer tangible solutions to the pressing issue of water scarcity.

PepsiCo’s support for IWS is consistent with the company’s philosophy of Performance with Purpose — delivering top-tier financial performance while creating sustainable growth in shareholder value. A key part of this philosophy involves holistic water stewardship. PepsiCo respects water as a fundamental human right, and conserves water and assures its quality in internal operations and throughout the supply chain. The food and beverage company respects shared users of water within watersheds where it operates and works with partners to help provide access to safe water to people in developing countries.

Hosted by Masdar and organized by Reed Exhibitions, IWS 2015 is endorsed by the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water, Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority, the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi, the Regulation and Supervision Bureau, and Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company.
