Abu Dhabi, To develop teacher’s licensing standards that are consciously situated on the continuum of professional accomplished practice and aligned to the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), the National Qualifications Authority (NQA) held a workshop that brought together teaching, administrative, and supervisory staffs from various educational zones in the country.
Organized by the Higher National Steering Committee for the Licensing of Teachers comprised of the Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi Education Council, Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and the NQA, the workshop aimed further to directly engage schools heads, teachers, and supervisors in the process of developing teaching professional standards that areconsistent with the Ministerial Council for Services Resolution No 132 of 2013which mandates the development of a national policy for the licensure of teachers at public and private schools in the country.
At the workshop, held at IPIC Building, the NQA shed light on the key messages the licensure standards development process should achieve. Of these are the need to attract more UAE nationals to the teaching domain, and to develop standards that will be endorsed by education and training experts and specialists representing all the strategic partners within the UAE.
His Excellency Dr Thani Almehairi, Director General of NQA, said that all the workshop’s strategic messages, such as the need to suitably enhance the real requirements of the education environment in the public and private sectors now and in future and to maintain high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do and which can be effectively used for the assessment and professional progression of teachers, come in line with the Ministerial Council for Services Resolution No 132 of 2013 and the Cabinet Retreat of 2014.
Dr Almehairi, lauding the diligence and commitment of all the participants to make this unique national initiative a success, further explained thatthe workshop is part of the NQA strategy to always work closely with its partners and to engage well- experienced teachers and school heads from UAE nationals and expatriates alike in reviewing, developing and adopting licensure standards that can meet the best relevant international practices.
