Fans from all walks of life soaked up four sun-kissed days of thrilling action and entertainment at the tenth anniversary of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, which celebrated the milestone event in style and in glorious conditions.
The Championship, which has now welcomed more than 360,000 visitors over 10 years, saw thousands of people line the fairways and pack the Championship Village.
From golf fanatics to first-time tournament-goers, the Championship offered something for everyone with the world’s top golfers, HSBC Ambassador sporting legends and arguably the best off-course entertainment of any regional sporting event.
“The 10th anniversary Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship was an incredibly special event,” said Sultan Al Dhaheri, Acting Executive Director Tourism for Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), which organises the event.
“We are proud of the massive interest in this Championship, not only locally but from all corners of the globe. It has been our pleasure to welcome over 65,000 visitors through the gates this year, who have helped us to celebrate our anniversary. Through our global promotional efforts and strategic golfing and operational partnerships, we have no doubt next year will be just as successful - this Championship will keep going from strength to strength.”
Fans young and old - filled the Championship Village, enjoying a taste of golf, tennis, rugby and football in the HSBC World of Sport, as well as experiencing the culture and traditions of the emirate with the ancient sport of falconry, henna and calligraphy activities and even camel rides. Visitors were also treated to Jeremy Dale Trick Shot Shows and delicious treats from True Aussie Lamb & Beef and Weber Grills Masterclasses.
“The Championship has gone up a level over the years,” said Jeremy Dale, who turns on a masterclass display of trick shots for Village visitors. “The tournament does a brilliant job of promoting not just golf, but all kinds of activities, which is fantastic for kids they simply can’t be bored here!”
