Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has announced its upcoming public programme Multaqa Zayed National Museum a new series of talks programmed around the narrative of Zayed National Museum that will chart the exciting journey of the museum in the lead up to its opening. Scheduled to run from January until May 2015, the programme introduces Zayed National Museum to the public, telling the story of the UAE through the life and achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The series will take place across the UAE with lectures across various locations such as Manarat Al Saadiyat, Qasr Al Hosn and Al Ain Palace Museum.
HE Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of TCA Abu Dhabi, said: “A living embodiment of Emirati identity, Zayed National Museum, a national museum designed to tell the story of the UAE, will provide a location for UAE nationals to share with the rest of the world; a symbol of a proud heritage and a space that tells the story of leadership, strong will and creative development. Multaqa Zayed National Museum marks another step towards highlighting Sheikh Zayed’s milestones as well documenting the momentous history of the United Arab Emirates.”
Salama Al Shamsi, Project Manager of Zayed National Museum, commented: “Driven towards instilling a sense of national pride within the people of the UAE, the Multaqa Zayed National Museum series will offer the public a glimpse of the stories that will be showcased in the museum. With a focus on illustrating the principles behind the upcoming Zayed National Museum, as well as explaining the concepts of its national collection, the series will feature notable guest speakers who have witnessed the development of the UAE.”
Commencing in January, the opening talk entitled How a National Museum Reflects National Identity, will introduce the role Zayed National Museum will have in further shaping and affirming the national identity of the UAE.
Moderated by Salama Al Shamsi, Project Manager of Zayed National Museum, TCA Abu Dhabi, the first talk, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 27th of January in Manarat Al Saadiyat, will feature H.E. Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and MacGregor, Director of the British Museum.
Zayed National Museum will celebrate the unification of the Emirates and their transformation into a modern nation under Sheikh Zayed (19182004) the ‘Father of the Nation,’ within the context of the Middle East and the wider world. Designed for the public, the museum will enable visitors to encounter an unparalleled collection of art and artefacts from ancient and living cultures of the UAE and the wider Middle East.
