Empower, the world’s largest district cooling services provider, will be present at the upcoming World Future Energy Summit (WFES), which will be held in Abu Dhabi from January 19 22, 2015. The company will showcase the latest technologies used in district cooling that improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and hosted by Masdar, a Mubadala Company, WFES 2015 is set to attract over 30,000 policy makers and business leaders from 170 countries.
Commenting on Empower’s participation at the event, His Excellency Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said: “As a global platform for the energy industry, WFES plays a vital role in addressing the interconnected challenges of economic development, water scarcity, poverty, energy and climate change affecting the widespread acceleration and adoption of sustainable and clean energy. We are very pleased to participate in this landmark event and showcase the benefits of district cooling to industry stakeholders in the public and private sectors from around the world.”
Empower’s involvement at the event reflects its ongoing commitment to reaching the goals outlined in the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda. This plan seeks to improve air quality, conserve the country’s water resources, and promote the use of clean energy. Empower will seek to highlight its corporate vision and how district cooling can play a role in achieving a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability.
“It has become clear that anthropogenic or man-made global warming has advanced from mere theory to a reality,” Bin Shafar continued. “Climate change, paired with a soaring population growth predicted nine billion by 2050, sustaining the basic quality of life is increasingly becoming a challenge. Fortunately, this is a man-made problem that has man-made solutions. In Dubai, for instance, air conditioning consumes up to 60 per cent of energy used during peak hours. One practical way is to explore how we can implement more efficient cooling systems, which is a key to decreasing our overall energy consumption.”
Empower, operates 1 million Refrigeration Tonne (RT) capacity including iconic real estate developments in Dubai like Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Design District among others.
