Ministry Of Interior Launches Awareness Councils In Abu Dhabi
(11 January 2015)

The Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the Law Respect Culture Bureau and in cooperation with the Security Media Department, launched the first awareness council in Abu Dhabi for 2015. The councils are to be held throughout the year and will discuss a number of national issues concerning societal matters, services, and policing.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of the Law Respect Culture Bureau, said: “Following the success of the MoI’s Ramadan Councils, we are further motivated to continue expanding ways to benefit the largest possible number of citizens, residents, and visitors.” The councils will be held throughout the year, and twice a month in the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. “They will discuss the most important intellectual and social topics of interest for members of the community in order to promote the communication and collaboration amongst the sons of the UAE,” he said.

Lt. Colonel Dr. Hamoud Al Afari, Deputy Director of the Law Respect Culture Bureau and Head of the work teams, explained that these councils will serve as a connection between the citizens and the governmental bodies and civil society institutions. He said: “The councils provide a venue to brainstorm ideas regarding the most pressing issues in the local scene, and are a place where everyone is invited to contribute their opinions and to bring their questions. The official authorities will then answer all inquiries and further deliver additional messages of awareness in regards to the issue under consideration and discussion.”

Lt. Colonel Al Afari called upon everyone to participate in these councils that are held under the patronage of the leadership of the UAE. “All are invited to contribute to the discussions and to support the councils through enriching the experience and the conversation with innovative ideas that add new positive dimensions,” he said.

The first council will take place on Monday, following the Isha Prayer (the daily evening prayer), at the house of citizen Mohamed Abdulla Al Rumaithi in Al Samha under the theme of “Cultural Communication with Domestic Workers and its Impact on Reducing Crime.” The discussion will be moderated by media personality, Juma’a Al Nuaimi from the Al Ittihad Newspaper. The council will discuss the humanitarian methods regarding the optimal treatment of domestic workers, how to embrace them and open the channels of communication, and how to alleviate their suffering to prevent any psychological stress that may become a threat to the safety of the families in which they provide work for.
