Fifty One Entities Competing In Fourth Edition Of Abu Dhabi Award For Excellence In Government Performance

Fifty one Abu Dhabi Government entities are competing in the fourth session of the three-category Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance (ADAEGP) that was launched in the middle of the month. The organised by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council.

The Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance is one of the effective tools intended to develop institutional working mechanisms, raise the quality of performance, improve the capabilities of personnel in government entities in order to qualify them to reach the highest levels in service and management fields, as well as to establish a culture of excellence, quality and transparency and contribute towards improving the government working system.

Yasser Ahmad Alnaqbi, Director of the Office of Abu Dhabi Excellence Programme, said, "The permanent directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, regarding the need to adopt the best practices that support the government working system through the development of the mechanisms of institutional work methodologies for entities and individual work methodologies for employees, as well as His Highness' review of the fourth session's programmes and work mechanisms during the last meeting of the Executive Council, the urge to persevere and work in order to consolidate the leading position of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at the regional and global levels and the interest in achieving excellence as a key element in various aspects of government work, reflect the leadership vision and interest in establishing a culture of excellence as the perfect way to develop institutional performance, so as to achieve comprehensive development, which requires us to exert more efforts to continue the progress and maintain our leadership." "The previous sessions have witnessed the Emirate's progress and development in various fields and people worked hard to embed excellence as a key and an effective element of corporate performance, to finally become a business model and a nucleus of leadership in various government working areas," he added. "The Office of Abu Dhabi Excellence Programme, in collaboration with the General Secretariat sectors, is ready to provide all kinds of support to government entities." The awareness sessions about awards will be launched next month and winners will be announced and honoured by the end of 2015. Complementary reports will be distributed in the first quarter of 2016.

It was decided to add improvement plans as one of the main evaluation processes inputs of the fourth session's awards. The responsiveness of the entities with complementary reports, which are considered as feedback reports handed over by the Office of Abu Dhabi Excellence Programme after the end of the third session work in 2013 and highlight the strengths and opportunities for improvement and development, as well as appropriate improvement plans and their implementation so as to ensure continuous improvement and higher performance levels, will be taken into account.

The Office of Abu Dhabi Excellence Programme has launched this year a number of initiatives, such as knowledge sharing events, during which many entities have presented their distinctive work methodologies, including their leaders' practices, awards and outstanding projects. Manuals on good practices have been issued, as well as a number of training courses conducted in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence of the General Secretariat of the Executive Council that targeted experts in excellence.

Early in 2014, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed directed to launch a programme of Excellence Awards within government entities, parallel to the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance, which aims at motivating entities to raise their performance level and helping them in applying the best practices in various areas of government work, as well as developing, building the abilities and motivating the employees, in a way that reflects on the participation of the entities in all categories of the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance.

The Award's fourth session includes developing standards for different categories of the awards, based on the best practices, in addition to involving stakeholders and experts. The awards' standards have been developed and for the first time, three new entities have also participated in the competition, namely the Judicial Department, the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, and Al Ain Distribution Company. A new award regarding risk management and business sustainability has also been developed and will fall within the first category awards "Excellence Drivers." The fourth session also includes the development of entities' performance evaluation mechanism, becoming an integrated process.
