Awareness section at the Ministry of Environment and Water has embarked on environmental awareness campaign to educate community, particularly travellers through the border points during this year.
Engineer Ayesha Al Sheikh Ahmed, an official at the awareness division and general coordinator of the initiative, said "to achieve prevention from different epidemic disease, the ministry has taken necessary measures by setting up agricultural and veterinary quarantines at the UAE border points, as well as appointment of specialised technical cadres and inspectors".
She added that the agro-quarantine centres are the first defence line to prevent entry of the diseases, which could damage many crops, and hence economy, indicating that the UAE has played effective role in preserving its agricultural wealth in line with the wise policies of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, following the course of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who launched the green belt initiative.
