This weekend, the UAE’s racing fans and their families can enjoy another spectacular weekend of racing at the home of the FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX.
Thursday 11 December sees the launch of the new TRD 86 Cup, Yas Marina Circuit’s first ever, single-make championship. Running alongside the Gulf 12 Hour race, the TRD 86 Cup first round consists of two races and is organised and managed through Yas Motor Racing Club as part of its commitment to creating and nurturing the growth of a sustainable motorsports community in the UAE
The championship was created by Yas Marina Circuit to offer affordable, accessible racing to local motor sports enthusiasts and will offer spectators a real taste of homegrown racing excitement.
As part of its ethos of providing accessibility to drivers and fans alike, the TRD 86 Cup will also offer racegoers the unique opportunity to witness behind-the-scenes action with open access to the Paddock, team garages and starting grid.
Fans can also watch the fourth edition of the Gulf 12 Hours race on 12-13 December, the most glamorous endurance race in the world. Watch more than 80 cars as they go head to head on one of the world’s most challenging and classiest circuits on 12th-13th December. This year’s exciting new additions include the entry of the McLaren 650, as well as Jorge Lorenzo, MotoGP World Champion in 2010 and 2012, joining Ferrari (Kessle Racing).
Split into two rounds of six hours’ racing each, in pure endurance fashion the race will consist of daylight and floodlit elements. The championship features a range of luxurious cars from the best GT one-make series and the super light CN2 models. The event will also see the thrilling final rounds of both the Maserati Trofeo MC and the Audi R8 LMS Cup (Asia).
With a ticket for Friday and Saturday’s full day of events costing only AED50 per person, it’s great value for all members of the family. If the packed racing schedule wasn’t enough to keep visitors entertained, Yas Marina Circuit will also be hosting an array of off track entertainment for fans including garage tours, behind the scenes experiences and children’s play areas and much more!
