ZUMA Abu Dhabi, the award winning restaurant, bar and lounge concept is pleased to announce that Noel Pusch, head sommelier, has been awarded ‘Sake Sommelier of the Year’ for 2014 by the Academy of Food and Wine Association and the Sake Sommelier Association. Held in London, the first of its kind outside Japan, the competition aims to identify the most skillful Sake Sommeliers in the world, bringing them to the attention of their customers and raising the profile of their profession along with their establishments.
Noel emerged a winner during a rigorous selection process involving a mock service test, blind sake tasting and finally a food-matching test. The judges felt that Noel’s constant experience at Abu Dhabi’s latest fine-dining restaurant helped him in the service and food-matching stages, whilst his broad knowledge on sake helped him in the blind tasting element. His combined learning, experience and efforts helped him secure the coveted top position and emerge as the eventual winner from a very strong field of finalists.
Zuma’s commitment to training its staff to the very highest international standards further underlines its commitment to excellence, which explains its on-going listing in the World’s 100 Best Restaurants in the World.
Ajaz Sheikh, Global Managing Director, ZUMA comments, “In an effort to consistently staying true to its roots, the Zuma family constantly works on furnishing its team with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote the rich culture of Japanese cuisine. Noel’s well deserved award means we are best placed to raise awareness of Sake in the Emirates, and this adds another valuable service to our award-winning offering.”
