The Chartered Institute Of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) event titled ‘The Impact of Women in Procurement” was held on Wednesday 22nd October 2014 at Crowne Plaza, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi and was attended by around 70 Procurement Professional from diverse industries, most participants being women and of UAE Nationality.

Lalit K. Dhamija, UAE Branch Committee Vice President and Procurement Process Team Leader, ADCO moderated the highly interactive panel discussions. The animated participation from the audience only reflected the fact that Women in Procurement are already assuming leadership roles, and have high ambitions for taking their profession to the highest international standards.

The panel consisted of Samar Al Mansoori, TDIC; Sara Omar, Tejari; Saeed Al Ameri, ADAC; and Muna Bin Zouba, Abu Dhabi Motor Sports, who shared their procurement expertise and led discussions across a variety of topics including emotional intelligence, ethical considerations and handling aggression in the workplace.

As a result of the discussions, CIPS MENA is now considering establishing a permanent Sub Committee for UAE women in procurement. The possibility of initiating a mentoring pool for UAE women in procurement may also be on the horizon, wherein female procurement leaders will mentor, support and advise up-and-coming women in the procurement profession.

Women in this region are eager to nurture and develop this discipline, and we can play an instrumental part in advising and supporting them across various industries. Since we started providing service and training to organizations and professionals across the Middle East, we have seen strong levels of commitment from women to creating sustainable supply chains, and to the creation of further employment opportunities.”

CIPS have a regional membership of almost 2,000 members, almost half of which are female.
